Fallopians send cheating Hoppers packing
Three years ago in a cup game the Grasshoppers whinged about the Fallopians fielding just one ineligible player. It was done in
error and the Fallopians admitted their mistake. The game
was replayed. On Thursday, the Grasshoppers tried to sneak no fewer than three conniving, unwanted and unwarranted ringers into their side for what could prove to be the pivotal cup game of the season.
The Fallopian spotted their trickery and whipped them anyway. In such circumstances, it was amazing that there was not more violence. The Fallopians kept a tight grip on their emotions and coolly cruised to a comfortable 112. Only Castle ripped through the thin veneer of camaraderie that lies like an oil-slick over these seething, bitter matches; he savaged the mediocre bowling with undisguised contempt. He now boasts a healthy average of 8.5,
threatening an assault on his injured captain’s 174 average from
last season. Wardle
continued to disappoint with the bat, and Barrow grew enormously in
stature as an entertainer at the crease. The Grasshoppers made a reasonable attempt to reach their target, but with a team full of uninterested mercenaries they just couldn’t match their opponents’ steely nerve and desire to win. They fell
more than 20 short, and I think we will be seeing some action in the
transfer market as they unload their expensive, illegal imports.
