Chats spring surprise
Had John Rooney not dropped a looping catch from Ossie Joseph off Freddie Barrass's bowling the Old Fallopians might have had a chance of beating an uncharacteristically strong Chats Palace side.
But the ball, scooting up high and to the off, bounced out of Rooney's hands and, as he failed to scramble the ball back, the game also slipped out of the Fallopians' grasp.
Freddie Barrass won his compensation the next ball as Judith Carter miscued into Chris Taylor's waiting embrace.
Joseph, however, had cheated fate and proceeded to catapault the remaining bowling across and over the boundary.
He measured out particular punishment to injured veteran Peter Frisby, who saw his nine deliveries dismissed for 25.
Chats opening bowlers Joseph and Raj Thind were too quick for the Fallopian batters. Only Philip Barrass made any impact, knocking up 43 before falling to change bowler Paul Gilbert.
Chats' secret weapon was Rieke Wahl, whose slow pace initially bamboozled and then dispatched Gary Boyd as he swiped and played on.
