|August 9, 2005||League vs Island||Won by 4 wickets|
Age no burden against youth
A competitive match between two sides many ages apart - Island playing with three 16-year-olds while the Old Fallopians fielded three well into their forties.
But for once the old dogs' tails were wagging harder, and unbeaten knocks by Richard Griffiths (51) and Ed Paleit (39) rooted the Fallopians answer to Island's total of 113-5.
Griffiths took the captaincy after volunteering to take the toss and put Island into bat on a warm evening with the sun steadily setting.
As well as his unbeaten half-century, Griffiths took three wickets and caught another, setting a high standard for other pretenders to the Fallopian captaincy, especially those from another hemisphere.
Tight bowling from Peter Frisby (two wickets), David Sultanti (on his first Fallopian league appearace this season) and even Tim Castle kept a tight rein on the Island scoring. Ed Paleit pitched in with some fast stuff.
Chasing the Island total progressed steadily, punctuated by two run outs, the first (of Dave Burt) on only the second ball, with Sultanti caught well out of his crease returning for an ambitious second run.
A return to winning form ... just as the season ended. Roll on 2006.
