A washout almost stopped any hope of play, but with the clouds
dissipating, the sun poured out across the park as this and one
other match survived the heavens.
London Eagles maintained
their unbeaten start to the season as they made light work of Old
Fallopians 2 on pitch 1.
With the match reduced to 13 overs,
the Fallopians batted first and started strong. Jack Holmes and Matt
Wake shared a 44-run opening stand. Masum Ahmed broke up the
partnership by bowling Wake through the gate for eight.
Anthony Banks departed for six when he lofted the ball upwards for a
confident caught and bowled for Alomgir Ali.
Holmes and
Stebbins continued at pace for the remainder of the innings. Holmes
finished unbeaten on 47. Stebbins was not out for 23 including a
non-boundary four, run punishingly between the wickets, as the Old
Fallopians closed on 123-2.
Attacking left-hander AZM Johnny
started strong for the Eagles, finding boundaries across the park as
he and Apu Chanda started in typically aggressive fashion. The pair
shared an impressive 60-run stand before Apu was run out for 30 from
a throw by Sal Mahmood to the non-striker’s end with bowler Jacob
Wolff quickly removing the bails.
Johnny found six
boundaries as he motored towards victory, before he fell at the
death, two short of his half century. He was removed by Jack Holmes
who managed to cling on to high-struck ball, despite the low sun
full in his eyes.
Two sixes at the end from Jamil Ahmed (18)
eased the Eagles home on 129-2, in just 10.3 overs.
