Full scorecard | averages | back to fixtures

Played at Victoria Park. Report by Sam Shahid.

Excellent 2nd game and a very close defeat. A game played in good spirit. Match went to the last over and even last 2 balls could have decided a different result. Chasing 162 in 16 overs we made 156. Lost by 6 runs. .

TOSS: 2nd time in a row, captain (Sam Shahid) lost the toss and was put into field (we would have fielded as they were 4 short for good 30 minutes into the match).

BOWLING: This was hard work in extreme (EXTREME) cold conditions 7 of the 8 players bowled (Charlie Miller, Rav Matharu, Shameer, Sheraz Shahid, Hassan Khan, Bilal, John Shaw). Rav was the pick of bowlers and got 1 wicket and only gave 24 runs in 4 overs. The batsman were in lot of trouble in the start but fielding was not up to the mark. Once settled they started to play real 20/20 style and were connecting well. We had good variety with 2 spinner, and 4 medium pace bowlers where Shameer has excellent slower bowl.

BATTING: Sam and Rav started Sam got out early once again need more nets and patience. Rav got a new partner Shameer who made 50 not out in the 9th over and placed his innings excellently. Rav got out on 49 tying for a six in the 14th overs. Charlie made a quick fire 42 not out in 6 overs. Overall excellent performance. We knew we needed 1 good over but Royal Sovereign (who were mainly players from Contenders last season) only bowled 4 good bowlers and did not take any risk.

FIELDING: Excellent keeping again from Sheraz and Rav and 0 byes. Ground fielding was good but not the same as other weeks. The 1st batsman who got a 50 was dropped 3 times in first 4 overs and that set the fear free batting and some 3 easy run outs were missed that caused extra over throws also. Sam / Bilal / Rav did manage a run out together. One batsman kept of annoying the players with lot of shouting and stealing runs that did create some heat but nothing serious. He eventually run his partner out and then kept quiet.

Royal Sovereign 162 for 2
Denis 52 Not Out, Luke 51 Not out

Old Fallopians 156 for 2
Shameer 51 not out, Rav Matharu 49, Charlie Miller 43 not out.
