Played at Millfields, Hackney
Report by Hassan Khan

The season finale was played in glorious sunshine against old rivals Homerton at Millfields.

Having won the toss I elected to bat, an easy decision with our powerful line up. Openers Suhail 'Sam' Shahid and Sakib immediately put the wayward Homerton bowlers to the sword, with 86 in 13 overs, until Suhail played on for a belligerent 28. Sakib marched on with shots all around Millfields Park and constructed a classy century before being retired by me, after reaching 102* following 76* in the preceding match at Hilly Fields.

In a sometimes testy atmosphere, Farhad responded with a brilliant 50, unleashing eight 4s and a 6. Once he had left the crease, our innings continued at a rapid scoring rate, thanks to a quickfire 46 from Azaz and a useful cameo from Steve.

Chasing our total of 297 in 35 overs was always going to be a tough ask for Homerton. After myself and Peter opened the bowling, Naveen castled Homerton skipper Dutch with a beautiful in-swinger. Hereafter, our Telugu-speaking trio of Raj, Ravi and Barath bowled superbly and presented Homerton with little chance of winning.

Enter Sam, looking dangerous. The unlucky bowler was John Shaw, who agreed with me that our best option was to keep Gary Horsman on strike. With some superb hitting, Sam was threatening to take control of the game but was brilliantly run out by Raj for a well deserved 59. Out sauntered Marcus, who was equally aggressive but holed out to Ravi off the bowling of Steve. A second scalp took Steve ‘Singh’ Hamilton to 18 wickets, O.F. top Sunday wicket taker for 2017 … Many congratulations to Steve and to all for a thumping victory, albeit with some difficult moments.
