On a muggy overcast day with a touch of light drizzle in the air, it was important to win the toss and put Homerton into bat ... which is exactly what happened!

Homerton fielded an almost completely new side, replacing ten of the players from the team that we beat in early June. It was much the same story for us - I was the only survivor from that successful mission!

Hashmi and Junaid opened up the attack with a contrast in their bowling styles which complemented each other perfectly.

Junaid raged in aggressively from the start and clean bowled opener Sandeep with his fourth ball of his first over. He delivered a masterful variety of toe-crusher yorkers, slower balls, chin-music short-pitched balls and in-swingers. In short, he totally dominated and destroyed the Homerton batting line up and finished with impressive figures of 6.5-0-31-4.

At the other end, Hashmi maintained constant control with laser-beam accuracy. He was soon rewarded with the wicket of the Homerton captain Sagar with an unplayable away-swinger that nicked the outside edge and flew straight to second slip where Prabhu took the catch intuitively! Hashmi finished his masterclass in bowling with figures of 5-2-12-1.

Then on came Aamer with mixture of allsorts. He started off with three wides. Then he adjusted his approach, generated massive swing from his bulky physique and was rewarded with three quick wickets!

Prabhu took a wicket and Khalil run out Daniella off my bowling with a pinpoint throw that hit the stumps from short leg. Homerton ended up all out with a measly total of 98.

With no teas on a humid day, why hang about? So without a break we got straight on with the task in hand.

We chased down the total without problem. New opener Aamer scored a rapid 35 and we won comfortably by seven wickets.

Being sporting types, myself and Vishnu joined the Homerton team for drinks at the rowing club after afterwards ...
