Played at Millfields
Report by Steve Hamilton

For this fixture we were blessed with probably our strongest team all season. We had 10 proper cricketers and myself. There was no flipping of the coin. After close negotiations we came to a sensible compromise. We would bat first.

Everyone contributed and most got into double figures. Our top scorers were Jakeria Ahmed on 53, Jayasankar Uthaman 50, Talal Ali 34 not out, as we reached a formidable total of 253 for 8 off 35 overs.

At tea we had the pleasure of two OF legends joining us, first Peter Frisby and then, cycling to the ground on his mountain bike and looking in peak condition, the evergreen John Shaw.

Chasing 254 for victory was definitely going to be an uphill task for London Fields.

Our opening bowlers Mozzam Sultan and Umair Shahzad were both on fire and caused early damage. London Fields never recovered after their devastating opening spell and both finished with superb figures of 5-1-12-1 and 5-1-17-3 respectively. After just 10 overs we had them on the ropes at 31 for 4.

Asad Mushtaq removed their one threatening batsman, Chris Rice, for 28. He mistimed his stroke completely. The resulting thick edge looked like it was actually coming in my direction! But Mo Junaid only had one thought - it's mine! - and I had the same thought - it's his!. Mo came dashing towards halfway between square leg and the wicket and took the catch.

Talal Ali was back to his best taking both his wickets clean bowled. He is now our leading wicket taker this season. He finished with outstanding figures of 4-0-7-2

Mohammed Rashid cleaned up their tail and took three wickets. A magnificent catch taken low to ground from Jayasankar at the end sealed a comfortable victory by ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY!
