June 19, 2005 | Friendly vs High Halstow | Won by 4 wickets | |
Big-hitter Fitzsets the paceDarren Tempany writes: Yes, another Win for the Fallopians. This was more of a team effort all round, with everyone contributing to the win with solid bowling, good fielding and a couple of excellent knocks with the bat... After winning the toss and electing to field, we started off well, keeping their opening batsmen tied down, with only the odd boundary given away on a relatively small, extremely fast ground. Mark Dummett & Ed Paleit bowled a good line and length, yet were unrewarded with a wicket in their opening spells. The first 2 batters stayed in for a number of bowling changes, at times scoring freely (thanks to yours truly) and other periods where we held them to very few runs thanks to some tight bowling from Paul & Russell - one batter (captain) scoring most of the runs and eventually reaching his century and retiring. This gave us a chance to have a look at a new batter and it wasn't long before he was sent back to the pavillion. After a few more quick wickets, the final score was 3 - 173. Not a bad result keeping them under 5 an over. This was mostly due to the very able bowling of our ring-in opposition 15year old colts, and excellent second spells from Ed and a rejuventated Dave Fitzpatrick. Simon Hemelryk contributed nicely with a stylish 30 odd (sorry for no exact scores) to keep the runs flowing. But the innings of merit is by far that of the swashbuckling Aussie Dave Fitzpatrick. A bit of a dark horse with the bat, he strode out joking at how soon he may be back in the pavillion, only to despatch numerous balls to the boundary and several well and truly over the fence that even troubled the poor market gardener next door!! His quickfire 70 odd set us up for a very good win with ten overs to spare.
