Our most impressive batting of the season agains a clinical
attack from London Wanderers saw us reach 117 for the loss of just
two wickets.
Austin Hymas was top scorer on 34 not out with a display of
powerful and classicaly correct strokes. Opener Rafe Smallman was
out for 13 to a well held skier (see pictures
here...).
AK Southey gave his swashbuckling best, reaching 26 before being
run out by a direct hit from Wanderers' fielder and student cricket
coach Badg Allam -- who went on to score an unbeaten 41 in their
reply.
Skipper Jonathan Stebbins temporarily lost the feeling in one of
his fingers after it was rapped by a rearing delivery, but continued
to reach 17 not out.
The Wanderers in their turn rushed through the score, reaching
their target in 11.2 overs, not before Steve Ward took two wickets,
one caught by Hymas and the other a cracking delivery that scattered
the bails.
A defeat but by no means a disgrace, this was a powerful
performance against a very able opposition.
