Played at Spring Hill, Hackney
Played under a chilly grey sky on the artificial strip by the
rugby pitch. Debut for Stephen Richter (21 runs, second highest
scorer), first appearance by Rob Watts since birth of daughter.
Fallopians batted first, lost wickets quickly and only avoided
total embarrassment thanks to a thoughtful 42 from Simon Hemelryck.
Under the circumstances surviving 32.1 of our allotted 35 overs was
an achievement.
Chats' bowling was unforgiving, with even the gentle stuff from
Alicia and Stuart bamboozling most of our innings.
Our bowling was sparky but never enough to hold back Gary Horsman
and his troopsters, who polished off our modest total of 107 inside
14 overs.
You can see more images from the game
here, including Peter Frisby in a fetching improvised red
poncho. The tea was, of course, its usual high standard, and sorrows
were drowned in the traditional fashion ouside the Anchor, along the
canal.
