Played at Millifields
By Rafe Smallman (skipper)
Well that was quite a game, and ended with one of our players
describing the Fallopians as thoroughly professional!
Put into bat on what seemed to be a good pitch, the Fallopians soon
found that while the pitch was good, everything else conspired
against the batsmen. A soft ball and an outfield representing a hay
field meant that scoring runs was not as easy as predicted in their
team talk.
At 60-1 after 18 overs the innings still felt very much in the
balance. Following the drinks break the Fallopians were able to push
on a bit more to make a total of 150. This score included a useful
50 partnership between Rafe and Andy towards the start of the
innings, and useful contributions later on form Mark, Matt W and
Azaz. Special mention should also go to Chats opening bowler Nomad,
who went for 9 runs off his 7 overs.
What followed was a lovely tea which included a ceremonial
'Fallopians of 2010' cookie, leaving the team to consider the
delicousness of the cookie and the predicament of whether they had
enough runs.
It soon became apparent that the Fallopians had scored more than
enough, and before we knew it Chats had been bowled out for 44, with
wonderful bowling, fielding and catching ensuring our performance
could be described as professional! In particular, the opening spell
of Azaz, taking three wickets, aided by Peter drying up the runs at
the other end meant this game was over quickly.
Fred put in a good debut spell at the end of the innings, and
there were some good catches from Will and Peter, as well as two
runouts from Mark and Rafe. And for those who were at this fixture
last year, it was certainly revenge enough!
See you all next year!
