Played at Victoria Park This was the Old Fallopians' biggest league victory since they beat Masiha by 96 runs in June 2006 (see report here...)The result in this early season mini-league decider (and Masiha's defeat to London Tigers on the neighbouring pitch) means the Fallopians move above Masiha on net run rate and play in Division Two for the main season. It will be the first time the Old Fallopians have played outside the league's lowest division - and is all the more impressive as this year there will be four divisions. One of the strongest teams the Fallopians have fielded for many years barely missed a beat, winning the toss, batting first and powering to 153 for 4 from 16 overs, with captain Sam Shahid unbeaten on 53. Regents were skittled all out for 59 in 11.5 overs, after an unprecedented series of catches - six in all, and only one catching chance missed (denying Tim Castle a wicket in the second ball of the innings). Will Hopson-Hill took three catches in succession, all at point, as well as gaining two wickets of his own. Sam Berkson, Mark Scoltock (keeper) and Anthony James also taking catching honours. Special mention for debutant Charlie Malston, who bowled two spotless overs without conceding a run and demolishing the wicket to take a wicket second ball. All that after an elegant 15 earned with precise and straight-batted shots - one so straight it almost decapitated the umpire. Also reaching double figures were Scoltock (23) and Hopson-Hill (21) The other wicket takers were Peter Loving (2 wickets), Berkson (1) and Castle (1). Extra thanks to Andy Huckle on the boundary who lent Peter Loving
his cricket top and trousers (Peter had forgotten to pack his!).
