Played at Old Chigwellians
- Memo to future captains - never play without a limit on the
bowlers!
- This was a timed game with no limit on bowlers
- Fallopians struggled to get team - in end fortfied with
17-year-old nephew (William Morris) of Paul Cox, and two guests on
loan from Cincinatti CC - Mohammad Abid and Kingsley Maunder
- We were short of batting - line up ended at number 3 - but Mathews
were possibly worse off.
- We lost toss, put into bat.
- Mathews' captain Aadil Biag opened and closed the bowling - and
filled in the bit between. In all he bowled 17 of the 35 overs
completed in the two and a half hours allotted to the first innings.
- We suffered an early collapse - Sam Shahid caught & bowled, Azaz
Khalil given out caught, Mark Scoltock out first ball - followed by
the departure of opener Andy Huckle, top scoring on 19.
- Mohammad Abid then blocked and blocked and blocked, waiting in
vain for the bowling to change
- At the very end Mathews rested Bicar after 15 overs and we scored
20 off bowler no 3, to push our total to a feeble 76
- Mathews' own innings suffered an even faster collapse under
accurate pace from Khalil and stylish deliveries from Morris. Their
first five wickets fell for 17 runs.
- But all rounder Biag steadied the innings, imposed discipline on
his batting partner, and ground out the target, passing the mark
after 28 overs.
- Final drama as the scores were tied, with Maunder looping in a
deadly delivery to capture a sixth wicket, before the game ended
with a no ball.
