Played at Victoria Park, pitch 2 Report by Hassan Khan
This fixture was always going to be really tough, against the side
currently at the top of division 2 of the VPCCL.
In glorious
heatwave conditions, Victoria Lounge won the toss and elected to
bat. Their class showed as three VL batsmen powered to unbeaten 50s.
We did fight back to some extent, however, as Kemet bowled a superb
four overs including a vital wicket with his first ball, a sharp
chance at square leg, well held by yours truly! A second wicket had
to wait until the final over as VL posted a monumental 174.
Our target was academic against a penetrative bowling attack, backed
up by superb fielding. Nevertheless, Kemet completed a wonderful all
round performance by sharing in an excellent opening stand of 50
with Ilyas. They were well supported by an agile Philip, until the
latter pulled up with a sore hamstring in the penultimate over. A
brave batting response resulted in OF falling 80 runs short. To give
context to how strong a side VL are: they beat another Division Two
side (Sports Interactive) by almost 200 runs last week.
Congratulations to VL but well done all for a gritty performance.
