On a damp and overcast evening when all other fixtures were
abandoned, some cricket maniacs ensured a competitive 10 overs per
side contest.
The Strikers elected to bat and their opener A
Devanga was pinned LBW by Hassan Khan after just 3 balls. This was
followed up by some excellent foresight from keeper Jack Holmes to
run out the Strikers' number three S Chottekalapanda from 25 yards.
Opening bowlers Khan and Philip Barrass were ably supported
by Yasir Ali and Faisel Mahboob, but the man of the hour was Tim
Castle. His excellent line and length ensured another wicket by way
of smart manoeuvring from Holmes to effect a stumping.
With
a tight last over and another Striker G Nanjappa bowled by Khan, O.F
were left to chase 101, a decent bowling effort tempered by
excessive extras of 20 including 14 wides.
O.F openers Matt
Wake and Graham McGee ran like hares on the drenched wicket and
reached 39 from 4 overs before McGee was run out. This,
unfortunately, set a theme to our innings. Khan ended Barrass'
counterattack with a suicidal run that left Barrass stranded at
midwicket.
The Strikers bowled a tight line and Khan gloved
an outswinger to the keeper Devanga. Unplayable balls castled Holmes
and Mahboob to leave Castle and Ali as the last men standing.
They batted sensibly, until, you guessed it, another run out [on
the last ball - TC!] ended our fightback 22 runs short.
