Played at Barkingside Recreation Ground Report by Hassan Khan
(captain)
The season's second visit to Barkingside saw an opposition
hell-bent on revenge with the inclusion of three Essex League 2nd XI
players.
We won the toss and chose to bowl on a green
wicket. Our optimism was short-lived, however, as ill-disciplined
bowling from seamers and spinners alike conceded an incredible 59
extras. This would have been even worse but for athletic
wicket-keeping from Jack Turner.
The flood of runs was
temporarily halted by a spell of 4-20 in seven overs from yours
truly but Ilford still amassed an imposing 224 in 35 overs, thanks
to our self-destructive combination of loose bowling and dropped
catches.
Our batsmen buckled under insurmountable scoreboard
pressure, as the normally consistent Jack and Vishnu Dubey fell
early. A decent partnership from Rameez and myself was curtailed in
crazy fashion, with yet another frustrating run out for the captain.
Rameez earned a respectable 50 but it was in vain as we
folded meekly, 89 runs short of our target.
