Played at Victoria Park, pitch 1 Report by Tim Castle
- A match to forget, when considering the disparity in
scores. But played in good spirit on a fine evening. - The
Marroccas won the toss and batted, and batted well, despite the
early loss of one of their openers to a catch by OF league debutant
Mo Najeeb off Jack Holmes' bowling. - Two big hitters
dominated the Marrocas' innings, both retiring on 50 and captain
Robbie Jacobs coming back at the final two balls to add another six
runs to his total. - Bowling highlight for us was the partnership
between Anthony Banks and keeper Laurie Roberts, taking three
excellent wickets caught behind. - In reply, we barely
replied. Opener L Roberts (29) was the only OF batsman to get more
than 20 runs. - Roberts watched as a succession of batting
partners came and went, with only the number eight, Fahim Pathan,
playing solid defensive strokes. - Normally dependable
batsmen like Jack Holmes and captain Matt Wake lost their wickets
early, while the previous week's match winner Anthony Banks ran
himself out after facing one ball, recklessly going for the second
run. - Marrocas pace bowler Danny Marshall was especially
deadly, taking three wickets for the cost of only six runs. His
victims included Nikhil Kalyanpur, Mo Najeeb and Faisel Mahboob
(clean bowled after a hefty swipe across the line). Kalyanpur, out
LBW, evidenced a bruise above the pad to suggest a harsh decision,
but the infallible Hawk-Eye system (umpire TC) saw the delivery
as a clear stump-breaker ... - Last man to fall was opener Roberts
as the Fallopians crashed in the 12th over to a heavy 106-run
defeat, perhaps our largest ever loss (by runs) in the league.
